Ministry of Woman and Child Development organized a seminar on Technology Partnerships for Steering POSHAN Abhiyaan called 'TECH-THON' in New Delhi. It aimed to integrate information technology for better roll out of its major social sector schemes.
Poshan is an overarching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment launched on 8th March 2018 by the Prime Minister in Jhunjhunu. Convergence and innovative use of technology are the two major attributes of POSHAN Abhiyaan TECH-THON.

Hyderabad may house first government Blockchain centre
The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) along with the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) and Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), Mumbai submitted a proposal to set up a Centre of Excellence for blockchain technology in Hyderabad to drive innovation.
The technology will be used to secure land records in Telangana. After this, the C-DAC’s Hyderabad unit will be the first one by the government for blockchain technology.

NITI Aayogs WEP signs SoI with Financial Institutions and social organization
NITI Aayog’s Women Entrepreneurs Platform (WEP) inked five Statement of Intent (SoIs) with Shri Mahila Sewa Sahakari Bank Limited, Indiabulls Housing Finance Limited, SREI Infrastructure Finance Limited, Sreemanta Sankar Mission and the Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) in order to provide assistance to women entrepreneurs and address the finance-related challenges faced by them.

Sagarmala receives gold award at 52nd Skoch Summit 2018
The Ministry of Shipping’s flagship programme for port-led-prosperity ‘Sagarmala’ received the ‘Gold Award’ in infrastructure sector in the recently concluded 52nd Skoch Summit 2018 in New Delhi.

According to TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), Mukesh Ambani-ledReliance Jio surpass Vodafone India as the country’s second largest operator in terms of "access service gross revenue" at INR62.2 billion ($903 million).

EXIM Bank extends USD 10 million loan facility to Seychelles
The Export-Import Bank of India(Exim Bank) announced that it has extended USD 10 million worth of line of credit (LOC) to Seychelles for healthcare and procurement of goods and projects.
It is the first tranche of the $50 million sanctioned by the Exim Bank to the country. With this agreement for $10 million, Exim Bank has extended two LOCs to Seychelles, taking the total value to $28 million.

SBI to close 9 overseas branches; PSBs collectively shut down 35 foreign operations
The country's largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) is in the process of closing down nine foreign branches as part of rationalisation of overseas operations.
SBI has over 190 foreign offices spread across 36 countries.
Bank of India also closed down operations in Yangoon and Bostwana, while Bank of Baroda and Indian Overseas Bank shut the Hong Kong branch.
In addition, PSBs have also closed down various representative offices.

Instagram launched 0.5 MB Lite app for Android devices
At just 573 kilobytes, "Instagram Lite" app is 1/55th the size of Instagram’s 32 megabyte main app.

NASA To Launch World's Lightest Satellite Designed By Chennai Students
The first-year engineering students Harikrishan, P Amarnath, G Sudhi and T Giri Prasad from Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science near Chennai built the 4cm ‘cube’ satellite 'Jaihind-1S' with a 3D printed outer casing from polylactic acid (PLA) nylon material, making it lighter than a medium sized egg, at just 33.39 grams.
The satellite has been designed and fabricated for the ‘Cubes in Space’ competition conducted by Colorado Space Grant consortium, NASA and idoodle-learning. It will be flown on a scientific balloon up to an altitude of 70km.
This satellite will be launched from a NASA facility in the US by August.
The previous lightweight satellite developed by Rifath Sharook, also from Tamil Nadu, and launched in the same competition in 2017 had weighed 64 grams.

Rani Rampal to lead Indian Womens Hockey team in 2018 World Cup
Rani Rampal was announced as the captain of Indian Women’s Hockey team for the World Cup London 2018. Goalkeeper Savita has been named vice-captain.

Dutee Chand sets new national record in womens 100m
Odisha’s Dutee Chand set a new national record in the women’s 100m race when she clocked 11.29 seconds at the 58th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships being held at Sarusajai Stadium, Guwahati, Assam.
The previous record of 11.30 seconds was also set by Dutee at the Indian Grand Prix in 2017. Dutee has qualified for the Asian Games in 100m and 200m by breaching the qualifying timings at the Inter-State Championships.
