Impeachment notice against Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra
Rajya Sabha Chairman has sent Opposition's impeachment motion against Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra to Rajya Sabha Secretary for scrutiny


The Congress leader further said that 64 sitting members of the House signed the motion, against the minimum of 50 required for a motion to be entertained by the chairman.
"71 MPs had signed the impeachment motion but as seven have retired the number is now 64. We have mentioned this in the letter. We have more than the minimum requirement needed to entertain the motion and we are sure that the Honourable Chairman will take action," Azad said.

India Forms Committee To Reform Higher Defence Planning

The Union Government formed a new integrated institutional mechanism, Defence Planning Committee (DPC) to reform the process of higher defense planning.

The permanent body would be chaired by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

The committee is aimed at driving the country’s military and national security strategy, draft capability development plans, and guide and accelerate defense equipment acquisitions.

The Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman of the Chief of the Staff Committee (CISC) will be the member secretary of the committee.

Gujarat Launches Pocket Cop Project

The Gujarat police unveiled the Pocket Cop project, which will enable quicker verification of passport applicants, and search of accused persons, among others. The project was inaugurated by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani in Gandhinagar.

Under the project, smartphones with data connectivity will be given to 4,900 police personnel, including every police station in-charge, investigating officer, PCR van, and those involved in passport verification.


Former Delhi High Court Chief Justice Rajinder Sachar Passes Away

Former Delhi High Court Chief Justice Rajinder Sachar passed away.

He was 94.  Sachar, who was Chief Justice from August 6, 1985, to December 22, 1985, has since his retirement been associated with the People’s Union for Civil Liberties, a rights group.

He was the chairperson of a committee set up by the previous UPA government to look at the social, economic and educational status of Muslims in India.

Veteran Journalist T V R Shenoy Passes Away

Veteran journalist and columnist TVR Shenoy passed away at Manipal Hospital in Karnataka.

Shenoy was famous for his deeper analysis and narrative style writing in his illustrious career.

Shenoy was awarded the prestigious Padma Bhushan award in 2003.

Miguel Diaz-Canel elected as Cuba's new president

Miguel Diaz-Canel was formally named as the new President of Cuba on April 19, 2018.

Canel would be succeeding Raul Castro in a historic handover that ends the six-decade rule by the Castro brothers. 

The 57-year-old, who was the only candidate for the presidency, was elected for a five-year term with 603 out of 604 possible votes in the National Assembly.

Jim Bridenstine becomes new NASA Chief in a close vote

The US Senate has narrowly confirmed Jim Bridenstine, President Donald Trump's pick to head the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), in a 50-49 vote. 

Bridgestone, US Navy veteran and former pilot, will become the 13th administrator of NASA. 

The 42-year-old has expressed an interest in returning humans back to the moon, spoken of closer ties between NASA and the commercial space industry and has voiced skepticism about human-caused climate change.

He was a strong supporter of Trump during the 2016 presidential race.

India to bid for 2026 Youth Olympics, receives appreciation from IOC chief

The Indian Olympic Association decided to bid for the 2026 Youth Olympics as well as the 2032 Summer Olympics, receiving appreciation from the visiting International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach.

The bidding process for the 2026 Youth Olympics is likely to start in early part of 2020.

Besides India, Thailand has also expressed interest to host the 2026 Youth Olympics.
