National Youth Day is observed on 12 January

The National Youth Day celebrated every year on 12 January.

This is the day when Swami Vivekananda, one of the greatest social reformers, thinkers, and philosophers of India, was born. The Indian government had declared back in 1984 that Swamiji’s birthday would be celebrated as the National Youth Day.

The main aim behind this is to make sure that the students across the country can be encouraged to learn about the life, the ideas and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda and apply them in their lives.

He inaugurated the National Youth Festival in Greater Noida through Video conferencing.

The five-day event will provide a platform to bring the youth of the country together with an opportunity to showcase their talents in various activities.

The Theme of the Festival is 'Sankalp Se Siddhi'.

Tenth DefExpo India Begins In Tamil Nadu

The tenth edition of a biennial exhibition of weapons and military hardware - DefExpo India- 2018 begun at Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu.

The four-day long defense expo was formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Indigenously developed military helicopters, aircraft, missiles and rockets, capabilities to manufacture submarines, frigates and corvettes would be showcased at the event.

Over 700 exhibitors from over 50 countries are participating in the Defence Expo.

Government to install water ATMs in Haryana

The Haryana government has prepared Water ATM Policy to provide clean drinking water to people at public places in cities. A proposal to this effect has been approved by the chief minister, Manohar Lal Khattar.

Haryana Become 1st State to make water policy.

Under this policy, public places such as bus-stands, railway stations, parks, bus stops, parking areas and markets would be identified. Functioning of water ATMs would be ensured in three ways. The municipality would install water ATM and ensure that it functions; the municipality would install and hand it over to an agency for functioning; the option of Corporate Social Responsibility would also be available to ensure functioning.



Jain said there would be a distance of 400 meters between two water ATMs which could be adjusted according to the convenience of people.

IndusInd Bank to Introduce Indias First Battery-Powered Interactive Payment Card


IndusInd Bank and Dynamics Inc. at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) announced plans to introduce the first battery-powered, interactive payment cards to the Indian market in 2018.

The new IndusInd Bank card from Dynamics has multiple buttons that let the consumers use a single card to pay in multiple ways. With a touch of a button, consumers can select credit, points or monthly installments as the payment option.

A different color light will activate based on the selected payment option.

Railway Ministry launches SFOORTI Application
With an aim to optimize freight operations, Ministry of Railways on 11 January 2018 launched the Smart Freight Operation Optimisation & Real Time Information (SFOORTI) App for Freight Managers. 

The SFOORTI App provides features for monitoring and managing freight business using Geographic Information System (GIS) Views and Dashboard.

With this application, movement of freight trains on Geographic Information System (GIS) view can be tracked. This app provides a Bird’s eye view of all Freight Assets in a single window and provides end to end Rake movement on Geospatial view.


Indu Malhotra, first woman lawyer to be directly promoted as Supreme Court judge

The senior advocate Indu Malhotra has been recommended as a judge of the Supreme Court by the collegium of Supreme Court. Indu Malhotra would become the first woman lawyer to be directly appointed as a judge of the highest court.

Along with Indu Malhotra, Justice K M Joseph has also been cleared for elevation to the apex court. Justice K M Joseph is presently chief justice of Uttarakhand High Court.

In 2004, Justice Joseph was appointed as Permanent Judge in the Kerala High Court and later transferred to Uttarakhand High Court as a Chief Justice in 2014.

Shreyasi Singh won gold in the women's Double Trap event while Ankur Mittal and Om Mitharwal took bronze in their respective men's categories here on Wednesday.
